Apollo 11 returned to Earth at 12:50 p.m. today but KSC personnel at the Unified S-Band Site maintained contact with the Passive Seismic Experiments Package still in operation at Tranquillity Base. Inspecting data tape from the PSEP erected on the Moon by the Apollo 11 crew are Joseph Morrison, seated, and Wayne Cocayne, standing. Monitoring data at an adjacent console is Richard Hansen. The PESP was activated on the lunar surface to keep delicate instruments tuned in on meteorite strikes and moonquakes.

The good Dr. Thomas Paine (centre) and other NASA officials joined millions of Americans and people around the world in applauding the successful splashdown of the Apollo 13 crewman. Others in the Mission Operations Control Room of the Mission Control Centre at MSC at the time of recovery were U.S. Air Force Dr. Gen. Samuel Phillips (extreme left), who formerly served as Apollo Program Director at NASA Headquarters: Dr. Charles Berry, (glasses and cigar on left), and Dr. George Low on the right with his celebratory cigar.

Gen. Edwin Donley And Dr. Eberhard Rees

Maj. Gen. Edwin I. Donley, left, commanding general of the U.S. Army Missile Command, and Dr. Eberhard Rees, director of the Marshall Space Flight Center, sign an agreement for mutual assistance between the two organizations. The agreement is an up-dated version of the one signed by their predecessors, then Maj. Gen Charles Eifler and Dr. Wernher von Braun, which became effective October 17, 1967. The new agreement is effective June 1, 1970. In signing the agreement, Dr. Rees said it continued several years of cooperation between the two organizations, cooperation that has resulted in mutual assistance, avoided duplications and saved taxpayers money.
