In the white room atop the Gemini launch vehicle, Astronauts Michael Collins , pilot, and John W. Young, command pilot, prepare to enter the Gemini 10 spacecraft. Engineers and technicians stand by to assist in the insertion.  Young holds a pair of king-sized pliers presented to him by the crew at Pad 19. Dr. Donald K. Slayton, MSC Director of Flight Crew Operations and Guenter Wendt, Pad 19 leader are also shown.

The Atlas D SLV-3 launch vehicle lifts off from Launch Complex 14 boosting the Agena D 5005 Target Docking Vehicle (GATV 5005) for the Gemini 10 mission.

The Gemini X mission began with the launch of the Gemini Atlas-Agena target vehicle from complex 14. The Gemini Agena target vehicle (GATV) attained a near-circular, 162- by 157-nautical-mile orbit.

The GT-10 spacecraft with John Young, Command Pilot, and Michael Collins, Pilot, splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean at 4:07 p.m. EST, July 21, 1966. Splash down occurred about 4 miles from the prime recovery vessel, USS Guadalcanal, 460 nautical miles east of Cape Kennedy. 

During their 43 revolutions and more than 70 hours in orbit, the astronauts rendezvoused and docked their spacecraft with the Gemini 10 Agena and also rendezvoused with the Gemini 8 Agena that was orbiting since March. They activated the propulsion system aboard the Agena 10, and the docked configuration rose to a record altitude of 412 nautical miles. Mike Collins performed two separate EVA's during this the eighth manned Gemini flight.

In this view, splashdown occurred just moments before this photo was taken while the parachute is still partially deployed and you can still see the wake caused by the impact.

Twelve-year-old Bill Doyle of Virginia Beach, VA., shakes hands with Gemini 10 pilot Michael Collins aboard the recovery ship U.S.S. Guadalcanal. At right is John W. Young, Gemini 10 command pilot. Billy represented 41 youngsters permitted aboard the Guadalcanal to witness the recovery with their Naval fathers or close relatives, marking the first time dependents have been permitted aboard a ship during a Gemini recovery operation. In front of them is a large cake baked by the ship's cooks for the occasion.
